Unit 2 – Clean is beautiful: Step 2

Task 1
Germ alert!
Let's do an experiment. Organize yourself as a group, find a ball and some glitter, chalk dust, colored powder, clay, red mud or flour.
- First dampen the ball and spread the glitter or alternative material all over it.
- Stand in a circle.
- Throw the ball around and ensure that everybody has a chance to catch it.
- After everyone has touched the ball look at your hands. What do they look like?
- What does the glitter or other material on your hands represent?
- Wash your hands after the activity.
Task 2
Handwashing high-five!
Handwashing with soap is a simple, yet highly effective way to ward off infectious germs. Here are five very simple steps to keep your hands clean and germ-free.
- Wet hands thoroughly.
- Use soap.
- Scrub backs of hands, wrists, between fingers, under fingernails (15 seconds)
- Rinse hands clean.
- DRY on a clean cloth.
It is very important to wash your hands with soap after using the toilet and before eating food.
Other times you should wash your hands include: before preparing food, after touching animals, after sneezing/coughing, after outdoor work, after picking up rubbish, before feeding children.
Task 3
Reasons for washing your hands
Write on the piece of paper all the reasons for washing your hands. Here you find an example:
