Unit 3 – The risks of drugs and alcohol: Step 3

Task 1
Imagine the following situation
You meet with a group of friends. Some of them have a bottle of alcohol and start drinking. A good friend of yours decides to drink as well and wants you to join him.
- Think about reasons that might lead you to join your friends and drink alcohol.
- There are external and internal causes.
- External causes may be friends, group pressure, having parents who drink etc. while internal causes could be problems at home, the desire to forget problems, the desire to belong to your friends etc..
- Draw two separate columns on a piece of paper to distinguish between external and internal causes and the reasons that might lead you to join your friends.
Task 2
Discuss together
Form groups of four.
- Discuss how you would react and why. The following questions might help you:
- What problems might arise when you refuse?
- What consequences could there be, if you accept?
- If others in the group refuse, how would you decide?
- Would you be disappointed about yourself the next day, if you were to accept?
- Would you accept, if nobody ever found out?
