CORE Strenghten Your Life Skills: For Teenagers and Young Adults – English
Unit 3 – Rules help us to live together: Step 2

Task 1
What rules do affect you?
- Choose one of the following categories that has multiple rules which affect you.
- School / classroom
- Your family
- The community in which you share your room or an apartment
- Religion
- Think about the rules from the chosen category. What kinds of rules affect you? For each rule, state why it is good rule.
Task 2
Evaluating the rules
Look at the rules below. Decide whether they are fair, useful, serve the common good, and are enforceable and simple.
- Fair: Is this rule fair for everybody or does it only benefit some people and discriminate against others?
- Useful: Does this rule have an actual use?
- Common good: Does this rule serve the common good?
- Enforceable: Is it possible to enforce this rule?
- Simple: Is the rule simple?
Note that in many instances you may not be able to answer those questions with a clear yes or no. Often there is a grey area where you could argue both ways. This is why you will always see what our thoughts were, when your opinion differs from ours.
- Tap the buttons with which you agree (only the last tap stays high-lighted).
- After filling in your answer, you will see your choice(s) and whether we agree with it.

- Post at least one rule in the discussion group below.
- Read through the other rules which your colleagues shared. Comment on at least one rule and indicate whether it meets all 5 criteria or where you have doubts.
