Task 2
Studying the picture
Look at the illustration above. What do you think? What does this message mean? Why might it be necessary to use signs like these?
- Read the short text about prejudices and how they can develop.
Prejudice is an idea or opinion that is not based on fact, logic or actual experience. Prejudice is usually defined as an unfavorable or negative attitude, especially when it manifests itself as hatred or intolerance towards people or a person. When a person acts on his prejudice, then it becomes discrimination. Stereotypes are overgeneralized beliefs, preconceived notions about a particular group of people and they encourage prejudice.
Task 3
Placing the icons
Below, you find eleven kinds of prejudices and 3 x 11 icons. First look at the three icons:
... symbolizes "I likely could become a victim of this prejudice myself".
... symbolizes "I know people who have this kind of prejudice".
... symbolizes "neither of above applies to me". |
Now read all of the eleven kinds of prejudices.
- Think if you might become a victim of a prejudice yourself or if you know someone who has this prejudice.
- Place the matching icon(s) next to the prejudice.
- If you are not sure if one of the first two icons fit, then drag the third icon onto the prejudice.
